Savannah Electric continues to monitor the progress of Hurricane Floyd as the storm moves up the Atlantic Coast. The Company has a critical force of employees that will remain in Savannah throughout the storm. In addition, operations at the Company’s generating plants in Port Wentworth and Effingham County will be maintained throughout the duration of the storm.

The Company has emergency restoration plans in place, ready to implement as soon as conditions permit. All employees and support crews from other companies are on standby and are prepared to reenter the area as soon as conditions permit.

According to Swann Brannon, Savannah Electric spokesman, “Widespread outages are still anticipated as a result of this storm, should it continue on its expected track. Because of this, customers should be aware that restoration will not be immediate and will be heavily dependent on the extent of outages.” As always, Savannah Electric’s first priority is safety, for employees as well as for customers. All hazards must be cleared before restoration efforts can begin. Customers are reminded to treat all downed wires as live wires, and to stay clear of fallen limbs and other debris.
