The Alabama Power Company Board of Directors has named Bobby J. Kerley vice president with responsibility for transmission. He assumes the position effective April 1, 2006.
“Bobby’s broad experience makes him perfectly suited to assume this leadership role and enhance our ability to continue to provide low-cost, reliable energy and excellent customer satisfaction,” said Alabama Power President and CEO Charles McCrary. “I am proud to have him join our leadership team.”
In his new capacity, Kerley will be responsible for the transmission functions within the Alabama Power service territory.
Kerley joined Alabama Power in 1973 as an engineer and has worked in roles of increasing responsibility at Alabama Power and Mississippi Power. Most recently, he served as vice president of customer service and retail marketing at Mississippi Power and managed that company’s restoration effort following Hurricane Katrina. Prior to that, he was vice president of Alabama Power’s Southeast Division and also served as Alabama Power’s coordinator for Southern Company’s Millennium Project, dealing with Y2K contingency planning.
A native of Alexander City, Kerley attended Banks High School in Birmingham and graduated from the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He and his wife Cathy have two grown children.
Kerley will replace Don Horsley, who will join Mississippi Power Company as vice president with responsibility for customer service and retail marketing.
Alabama Power, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Southern Company (NYSE: SO), provides reliable, affordable electricity to more than 1.3 million customers across the state.
