Southern Company Y2K Update, 11:50 P.M. EST: Southern Company facilities in Trinidad and Tobago make Y2K transition

About one hour ago, when its facilities in Trinidad and Tobago rolled through midnight, Southern Company identified no problems with its systems that are critical to keeping the lights on for its customers there.

Earlier Friday, Southern Company facilities in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Europe and Asia rolled through midnight. Southern Company identified no problems with its systems that are critical to keeping the lights on for its customers there, and no subsequent problems have been identified.

Also tonight, some news reports erroneously stated that a unit at Southern Nuclear’s Vogtle plant in Georgia was shut down unexpectedly due to human error or Year 2000 concerns. The unit in fact went off line Monday, Dec. 27, for a planned outage to repair leaking tubes in the feedwater heater. The unit has been repaired and returned to operation this morning.
