Southern Company names new director of investor relations

(Atlanta, Aug. 31, 1999) – Southern Company, the largest producer of electricity in the United States and one of the world’s largest independent power producers, has named Glen A. Kundert director of investor relations. Kundert will be responsible for all activities with security analysts, as well as institutional and retail investors.

“Glen brings a new dimension to our investor relations effort,” according to Allen Leverett, vice president of financial planning and analysis. “His background in communications and his international experience are two very strong attributes. He’ll help us to even better communicate our strategies to become the best investment in the electric utility industry.”

Kundert has more than twenty years of experience at Southern Company in a wide range of areas including corporate communications and governmental affairs. Most recently, he worked in the United Kingdom at South Western Electricity, plc., Southern Company’s electricity distribution company serving 1.3 million customers in southwest England.

Earlier this year, Kundert assisted the Southern Company team that acquired the Orange and Rockland generation assets in New York. He has also served the company in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for communicating and building support among external audiences for Southern Company’s position on industry structure, environmental, tax, telecommunications and other legislative issues.

Kundert attended the University of West Florida where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications in 1974 and his Master of Arts degree in mass communications in 1976. He and his wife, Beth, live in Dunwoody, Georgia.
