Southern Company announces quarterly dividend

ATLANTA – Southern Company today announced a regular quarterly dividend of 33 1/2 cents per share on the company’s common stock, payable June 6, 2002, to shareholders of record May 6, 2002.

This marks the 218th consecutive quarter – dating back to 1948 – that Southern Company will have paid a dividend to its shareholders. The quarterly dividend equals an annual rate of $1.34 per share.
