Plant Hatch Has Record Setting Year

Demonstrating once again why it is one of the best run nuclear power plants in the nation, the Edwin I. Hatch Electric Generating Plant set two generation records in 1999.

Plant Hatch produced a record 13,029,650 megawatt-hours of electricity, surpassing the previous Plant record of 12,775,178 megawatt-hours, established in 1998.

Also in 1999, Unit 2 set a new Unit generating record of 7,073,625 megawatt-hours, breaking the previous Unit record of 7,021,701 set in 1996.

According to Plant Hatch General Manager Pete Wells, the record setting year was the result of improvements in equipment, plant operations and employee performance.

Plant Hatch is owned by Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG Power and the city of Dalton, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Company. It is one of three nuclear power plants in the Southern Company system.
