Brian George named assistant treasurer at Alabama Power

Brian George has been named assistant treasurer for Alabama Power, Chairman, President and CEO Mark Crosswhite announced today. The appointment took effect Dec. 11.

In this role, George will provide oversight of Alabama Power’s Financial and Corporate Planning organization, which involves developing and carrying out all budgeting and long-range financial planning for the company.

George joined Southern Company, Alabama Power’s parent company, in 2001 as a senior fuel buyer in the company’s natural gas procurement area. Later responsibilities included managing and administering the natural gas hedging programs for each of the Southern Company operating companies.

George also has served as assistant to the executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Alabama Power.

Prior to joining Southern, George had a 10-year career at Sonat Inc., where he held various positions in internal audit, treasury services, strategic planning, and interstate pipeline transmission. Before joining Sonat, he worked for three years at an accounting firm.

George received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration from Samford University. He is a Certified Public Accountant.

George recently completed a three-year term serving as a member of the board of directors of the Brother Bryan Mission, a shelter for homeless men in downtown Birmingham.

George and his wife, Gina, have a daughter, Hannah, and a son, Reece.
