Volunteers set to clean Lake Martin Nov. 6-7

What: The Renew Our Rivers Lake Martin cleanup is Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7. Volunteers should report Friday at 8 a.m. to the Coley Creek Boat Landing. For the cleanup Saturday, volunteers should report to Wind Creek Park at 8 a.m. Immediately following the Wind Creek Park cleanup, a picnic lunch will be provided for the volunteers.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power, the Lake Martin Resource Association, Russell Lands Corp., Advanced Disposal and Wind Creek State Park.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 33 cleanups are planned into December on the Alabama, Black  Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: Coley Creek Boat Landing: From Alexander City, travel south on Highway 280 for approximately 3 miles and look for the Coley Creek Boat Landing sign on the left, next to Flint Hill Methodist Church.

Wind Creek State Park: From Alexander City, travel south on Highway 63 for approximately 5 miles and look for the Wind Creek State Park sign on the left.
