Volunteers set to clean Lake Jordan April 23

What: The 17th annual Renew Our Rivers Lake Jordan cleanup is Saturday, April 23. Volunteers should report between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. at Bonner’s Point off Highway 111. Volunteers should wear long pants, boots and a long-sleeved shirt. Minors must have a chaperone or permission slip to participate. T-shirts will be given to all volunteers. The cleanup will finish at noon. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by members of the Lake Jordan Home Owners & Boat Owners Association and Alabama Power.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected more than 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 32 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: From the intersection of Highway 111 and the Coosa River Parkway in Wetumpka, head north on Highway 111 approximately 7.2 miles and turn right on Bonner’s Point Road. Go to the end of the road, approximately ¼ mile.
