Volunteers set to clean Holt Lake Aug. 6

What: The annual Renew Our Rivers Holt Lake cleanup is Saturday, Aug. 6. Volunteers should report at 8 a.m. at Rocky Branch Park. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. Minors must have a chaperone to participate. The cleanup will conclude at noon. Lunch will be provided for the volunteers.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power and Pirates of the Warrior.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 32 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: From I-20, take exit 100 toward Abernant and make a slight right onto Highway 216. Continue on Highway 216 for 18.5 miles and turn right onto Rocky Branch Road. Follow for 2.8 miles and Rocky Branch will be on the left.
