Volunteers set to clean Black Warrior River Sept. 28

What: The Renew Our Rivers Black Warrior River cleanup is Wednesday, Sept. 28. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes and report at 3 p.m. at the Tuscaloosa River Market. Minors must have a chaperone to participate. The cleanup will finish at dark followed by an event at Black Warrior Brewing Company.

This cleanup is coordinated by the University of Alabama Student Government Association, Black Warrior Brewing Company, Local Eats and Alabama Power.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected more than 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 32 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: From I-20 West: Merge onto Highway 69 via exit 71B toward Tuscaloosa. Follow for 3 miles then turn right onto University Boulevard. Take the first left onto Greensboro Avenue and continue 0.21 mile then turn right onto Jack Warner Parkway. Follow for 0.5 mile then make a U-turn. Tuscaloosa River Market will be on the right.
