Volunteers set to clean Lay Lake April 23-29

What:  The Renew Our Rivers Lay Lake cleanup is April 23-29. Cleanups will take place in several locations during the week. Volunteers should contact the coordinator for targeted areas. The week will conclude with the community cleanup at Beeswax Park Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to noon, followed by a picnic lunch.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Lay Lake Home Owners and Boat Owners Association.

Overview:  Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected more than 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 32 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: From Birmingham, take U.S. Highway 280 East 15 miles. Turn right onto Chelsea Road and continue onto County Road 47/North Main Street. Once in Columbiana, turn left onto East College Street/State Route 25 Business, followed by a slight right onto County Road 28/Ferry Road. Take a left onto Alabama 145 North. Turn right at Beeswax Park Road and go to 245 Beeswax Park Road.
