News media invited to cover Gulf Power’s annual Economic Symposium

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 21st Gulf Power Economic Symposium, one of the longest-standing conferences in the region focusing on Northwest Florida’s economic future, is scheduled for Oct. 2-3 at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Sandestin, Florida.

This year’s theme, Northwest Florida Forward, brings together speakers and business leaders to discuss issues of mutual concern with a focus on regionalism, and continuing to build on a vision to create long-term prosperity in Northwest Florida.

More than 500 regional business and community leaders have registered to attend. Scheduled speakers include Peter Zeihan, Geopolitical Strategist and founder of Zeihan on Geopolitics, who will speak on The Accidental Super Power; Molly Fletcher, CEO of the Molly Fletcher Company, will discuss how to Unleash Your Potential; and Tom Fanning, chairman, president and CEO of Southern Company, who will discuss the National Economic and Energy Outlook.

Attendees will also receive a Florida Economic Update from Cissy Proctor, executive director of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity; and a Regional Economic and Prosperity update from Zach Jenkins, director of the HAAS Center for Business Research and Development at the University of West Florida.

Mark Wilson, president and CEO of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, will moderate a panel discussion on Northwest Florida Made; while Madeline Pumariega, chancellor of the Florida College System, will guide a Talent Talk discussion with state educational leaders.

Governor Rick Scott has been invited to attend day two of the event and is tentatively scheduled to present Florida’s Outlook for the Future.

A key feature of the symposium is the thoughtful discussion that takes place among the participants throughout the two days. Given the participants and the topics being discussed, there is substantial interest in the symposium. Members of the media who plan on covering the symposium do not need to register, however, are asked to RSVP to Rick DelaHaya, Media Relations supervisor.
