Mississippi Power prepares for Tropical Storm Nate

Gulfport, Miss. – Mississippi Power is closely monitoring the development and progress of Tropical Storm Nate, which is forecast to impact areas along the northern Gulf Coast, including the company’s service territory.

In addition to Mississippi Power’s storm response team, the company is securing assistance for up to 800 personnel, including lineman, tree crews and damage assessment teams.

According to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center, “Nate is forecast to reach the northern Gulf Coast this weekend as a hurricane, and the threat of direct impacts from wind, storm surge, and heavy rainfall is increasing from Louisiana through the Florida Panhandle. A hurricane watch and storm surge watch will likely be issued for portions of the northern Gulf Coast tonight or Friday morning, and residents in these areas should monitor the progress of Nate and heed any advice given by local officials.”

Mississippi Power customers can use the company’s online outage tools to report an outage, monitor the status of an outage, or receive updates, from their smart phone, tablet or computer by visiting the company’s online storm center. Through the storm center, customers can also access preparation resources and safety tips.
