Cooper, Webb elected to Alabama Power board of directors

Angus Cooper III and Phil Webb were elected today to the board of directors of Alabama Power.

Cooper is president of Cooper/T. Smith Corporation in Mobile. Established in 1905, Cooper/T. Smith has operations on all three U.S. coasts and in Latin America. The company has diversified its business interests, which now include warehousing, terminal operations, tugboats, push boats, barging, barge fleeting, floating terminals, logistics, marine and timberlands, vessel repair and restaurants.

Webb is president of Webb Concrete & Building Materials, Inc. Founded in 1945, the company operates ready mix concrete plants in Oxford, Pell City, Heflin and Roanoke, and building materials locations in Heflin, Oxford, Pell City, Centre and Birmingham. The company also has a flooring division in Pell City and maintains hardware stores in Heflin, Pell City and Centre.

Cooper serves or has served on the board of directors for many organizations, including the Alabama Wildlife Federation, Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, Mobile Arts Sports Association, UMS-Wright Preparatory School, Bryant Bank, the Alabama State Port Authority, Forever Wild Land Trust, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, Bryant-Jordan Student Athlete Program, the National Association of Waterfront Employers, the Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama, University of Alabama Delta Kappa Epsilon House Corporation, and the University of Alabama Culverhouse College of Commerce International Advisory Board.

He and his wife, Gretchen Van Brackle Cooper, have four children.

Webb serves in leadership positions for numerous organizations. He is chairman of the McClellan Development Authority, the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Knox Concert Series. He serves on the board of directors for the Home Builders Association of Greater Calhoun County, Jacksonville State University (JSU) Foundation, JSU School of Business and Industry, the JSU Board of Visitors, the Business Council of Alabama, Alabama Concrete Industries Association, Calhoun County Economic Development Council, NobleBank & Trust, Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, The Donoho School, YMCA of Calhoun County and The Right Place. He previously served on the Calhoun County Habitat for Humanity board and is donating materials for a Habitat home.

Webb and his wife, Denise, have a son and daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.
