Alabama Power, Holland Homes offer glimpse of Auburn’s first Smart Neighborhood

What: Alabama Power and Holland Homes are hosting a tour of the under-construction Northwoods community in Auburn – the area’s first Smart Neighborhood.

Media are invited to go behind the scenes for a first look at what makes up a Smart Neighborhood – from the super-efficient building features to built-in automation that lets owners control elements within the home from their mobile devices.

A model home is complete and fully equipped. Experts will provide details about the home and provide smart technology demonstrations. The tour will include information about:

Framing – The benefits of energy-efficient building and how it relates to the home energy rating system (HERS) and energy modeling.

Spray foam insulation – A demonstration of how it makes a difference in energy efficiency.

HVAC and heat pump water heater – An expert will describe this high-efficiency system.

Smart technology installation (thermostat, smart locks, switches and outlets) – How home automation and security systems make these homes unique.

When: Monday, Sept. 16, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Broadcast outlets are encouraged to attend at 1 p.m.
