Plant Vogtle Unit Reaches Generation Milestone

Vogtle Electric Generating Plant Unit 2 has produced 100 million megawatts of electricity.

Unit 2 reached the 100 million-megawatt milestone between 7:00-8:00 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, September 5. It had been on-line 250 consecutive days when it reached the milestone.

The 1,215-megawatt unit began commercial operation in May 1989.

Unit 1 reached the 100 million-megawatt milestone on October 4, 1998.

Each year, Plant Vogtle produces enough emission-free electricity to serve approximately 300,000 residential customers.

Plant Vogtle is jointly owned by Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG and the city of Dalton, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Company. It is one of three nuclear power plants in the Southern Company system.
