Plant Vogtle Sets Record In 1998

Demonstrating once again why it is one of the best-run nuclear power plants in the nation, the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant set two generation records in 1998.

Unit 1 produced 10,216,947-megawatt hours of electricity, surpassing the previous Unit 1 record of 9,983,960, established in 1995.

Unit 1 also established a new unit capacity factor record of 100.37%. Capacity factor is the amount of electricity a unit actually produces compared to what it had been projected to produce.

In 1998, Plant Vogtle generated a total of 18,605,559-megawatt hours of electricity without contributing to air quality problems.

Plant Vogtle is owned by Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG and the city of Dalton, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Company. It is one of three nuclear power plants in the Southern Company system.
