1998 Is Record Setting Year For Plant Hatch

Demonstrating once again why it is one of the best run nuclear power plants in the nation, the Edwin I. Hatch Electric Generating Plant set two generation record in 1998.

Unit 1 produced 6,951,753-megawatt hours of electricity, surpassing the previous Unit 1 record of 6,465,834-mwh, established in 1995.

Also in 1998, Plant Hatch set a new plant generating record of 12,775,178-megawatt hours, breaking the previous plant record of 12,741,571 mwh, set in 1996.

According to Plant Hatch General Manager Pete Wells, the record setting year was the result of improved equipment reliability, the extended power uprate on Unit 2 and continued general improvement in plant operations.

Plant Hatch is owned by Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG and the city of Dalton, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Company. It is one of three nuclear power plants in the Southern Company system.
