Volunteers to clean Logan Martin Reservoir March 30-April 4 in Renew Our Rivers campaign

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - March 20, 2009 - What: The Logan Martin Reservoir cleanup is Monday, March 30 through Saturday, April 4. Volunteers with or without boats can participate in the community cleanup on Saturday by contacting coordinators. It will be held at Lakeside Landing from 8 a.m. until noon, followed by a picnic lunch.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Logan Martin Lake Protection Association. Cleanups have been held annually since 2000. Last year, more than 250 volunteers collected more than 17 tons of trash.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, the Southeast’s largest river cleanup,
have collected nearly 10 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since it began in 2000. Twenty-three cleanups are planned through October.

Cleanups are held on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior and Mobile rivers in Alabama.

From Birmingham, take Interstate 20/59 toward Atlanta/Gadsden. Merge onto Interstate 20 East via exit 130 toward Atlanta. Travel approximately 29 miles.  Merge onto U.S. 231 via exit 158 toward Pell City.  Travel approximately 6.5 miles. Lakeside Landing is located at 4600 Martin Street South.
