Volunteers to clean Yates and Thurlow reservoirs April 22 as part of Renew Our Rivers campaign

What:  Tallassee is the site for the second Renew Our Rivers cleanup Wednesday, April 22 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. along the Yates and Thurlow reservoirs. Volunteers will meet at the Tallassee Recreation Center at 7:30 a.m. Last year in Tallassee, nearly 60 volunteers collected 1.85 tons of trash.

Cleanups have been held annually since 2000.

Overview:  Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, the Southeast’s largest river cleanup,
have collected nearly 10 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since 2000. Twenty-three cleanups are planned through October on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior and Mobile rivers in Alabama.

Directions: The Tallassee Recreation Center is on Gilmer Avenue/Highway 14 in Tallassee, near the high school stadium. From Montgomery, take Interstate 85 North to Tallassee exit 26. This turns into Gilmer Avenue. The recreation center is on the right. Approximately 30 minutes from Montgomery.
