Waters to lead Marketing at Alabama Power

Terry Waters, longtime Western Division vice president of Alabama Power is moving to a new role as vice president of Marketing.  In his new role, Waters will provide leadership for designing a new organization to help move Alabama Power forward as the company faces new challenges in the economic and energy arena. 


“Terry Waters’ broad experience and commitment to our customers make him the obvious choice for this job,” said Steve Spencer, executive vice president.  “The depth of his understanding of customer service, electric operations and the importance of civic involvement ensures Alabama Power will continue to be on the leading edge of delivering a reliable and valuable product.”


Waters started with Alabama Power in 1972 as a junior engineer in Birmingham.  He progressed through positions in power delivery and division management.  Waters is leaving a long-term post as vice president of Alabama Power’s Western Division to lead the Marketing department’s transition.


Waters graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electric Engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1971.  He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Eta Kappa Nu, Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Eta Sigma scholastic engineering and leadership honorary societies.


Active in community affairs, Waters was elected to the Tuscaloosa County Civic Hall of Fame, named West Alabama Pillar of the Community, the Tuscaloosa County Citizen of the Year and the Tuscaloosa Friend of Tourism, among many other civic accolades.  He is a past chairman of the United Way of West Alabama, the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, past president of Challenge 21 and a past trustee of Stillman College.






Waters is a board member of the University of Alabama Productivity Center, the Region 3 Workforce Development Advisory Council and is a past chairman of the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority.  Waters is the past chairman of the Black Warrior Council of Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Southern Region of the Boy Scouts of America, served on the North Alabama Girl Scout Council, chaired a Tombigbee Girl Scout campaign and was a recipient of the Girl Scout Thanks Badge and the Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award.


Waters and his wife Carole have a son, Griff, a daughter, Callie, and two grandchildren.
