Carbon capture and storage demonstration project to break ground at Alabama Power’s Plant Barry

Where:           Barry Electric Generating Plant

                        15300 Highway 43 North, Bucks

           

 

Background: Alabama Power and Southern Company, along with the U.S. Department of Energy, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., the Electric Power Research Institute and other partners are building a demonstration facility to capture carbon dioxide emissions from Barry Electric Generating Plant. When completed, the facility will be the largest in the world to be connected to a pulverized coal-fired generating plant.

 

The project will create up to 50 construction jobs, and the capture and compression plant will require up to15 full-time jobs during the life of the demonstration.
