Volunteers roll up their sleeves for cleanups on Yates and Thurlow dams, part of Renew Our Rivers campaign, April 22-23

What:              The annual Yates and Thurlow cleanups will be April 22-23. Volunteers will meet at the Tallassee Rec Center from 8-8:30 a.m. for registration. The cleanup will end at noon.

 

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Clean Water Partnership and Alabama Power employees.  Volunteers removed more than two tons of trash from Yates and Thurlow dams in 2009.

 

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river

cleanups, have collected more than 10 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since the program began in 2000. Twenty-five cleanups are planned through October. Cleanups are held each year on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior, Mobile and Alabama rivers.

 

Directions:     Directions to Tallassee Rec Center

                        From Montgomery – Travel north on I-85.  Take Exit 26/AL-229 North toward Tallassee. Turn left onto AL-229/County Road 30.  Continue to follow AL-229 for 8 miles.  Tallassee Rec Center will be on your right.
