Volunteers roll up their sleeves for cleanup on Lay Lake, part of Renew Our Rivers campaign, April 24

What:              The annual Lay Lake cleanup will be April 24. Volunteers will meet at the Beeswax Public Boat Launch at 8 a.m. to remove trash, tires and discarded items from the lake. The cleanup will end at noon, followed by a picnic lunch. 

 

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Lay Lake Homeowners and Boat Owners Association and Alabama Power employees.  Volunteers removed more than 13 tons of trash from Lay Lake in 2009.

 

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river

cleanups, have collected more than 10 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since the program began in 2000. Twenty-five cleanups are planned through October. Cleanups are held each year on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior, Mobile and Alabama rivers.

 

Directions:     Directions to Beeswax Public Boat Launch

                        From Columbiana – Travel east on County Road 28 approximately five miles. Turn left onto Highway 145.  Travel one mile to the bridge crossing. Beeswax Public Boat Launch will be on the right.
