Alabama Power’s board of directors and President & CEO Charles McCrary announced today the election of new officers and the appointment of executive position realignments within the company.  The movements are to accommodate the retirement of a longtime officer and other developmental assignments.

 

Bill Johnson, vice president of Charitable Giving and president of the Alabama Power Foundation is retiring after 40 years of service.  Johnson has served the company in a number of positions of increasing responsibility in Mobile and Birmingham.

 

“Bill Johnson has given Alabama Power and the state many dedicated years of service and expertise to make our communities better places in which to live,” said McCrary. 

 

“The additional executive movements help position Alabama Power to deal with a complex future to assure reliable and affordable energy for our customers,” he said.

 

Vice President Leigh Perry will assume responsibility for Charitable Giving for Alabama Power.  The board of directors of the Alabama Power Foundation recently elected Perry as president of the Foundation.

 

The Alabama Power board of directors elected four new officers:

 

• Myrk Harkins was elected vice president with responsibility for Corporate Real Estate. 
• Bob Weaver was elected vice president with responsibility for Corporate Services. 
• Richard Hutto was elected vice president with responsibility for the Southeast Division based in Eufaula. 
• Mark Crews was elected vice president with responsibility for the Western Division based in Tuscaloosa.

 

Harkins comes to the position previously serving as assistant to the vice president, Corporate Real Estate.  He graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and has held positions with Alabama Power and Southern Company Services since starting as a junior engineer with major construction projects in 1975.  Harkins and his wife, Donna, have a son and two grandchildren.

 

Weaver comes to his position previously serving as assistant to the executive vice president.  He graduated from Auburn University in 1980 with a bachelor of

science degree in industrial management.   Weaver began his career in Human Resources with Alabama Power in 1980 and worked through positions of increasing responsibility.  Weaver and his wife, Brenda, have three sons.

 

Hutto previously served as Alabama Power’s manager of Budget & Regulatory Planning.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and an MBA from Auburn University.  Hutto began working with Alabama Power in 1980 as a cooperative education engineering student in Power Delivery. Hutto and his wife, Alisa, have two daughters.

 

Crews comes to his new position from serving as director of External Affairs with Southern Company Services in Atlanta.   He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an MBA from Georgia State University and has completed the General Manager program at Harvard University.  Crews began his career with Southern Company in a cooperative education engineering position at Georgia Power.  Crews has a son and a daughter.

 

The position movements will become effective immediately.
