Volunteers clean Mulberry Fork at Gorgas Steam Plant Aug. 27 as part of Renew Our Rivers campaign

What:              The inaugural Mulberry Fork cleanup at Gorgas Steam Plant is Friday, Aug. 27.  Volunteers should meet at 7:30 a.m. at the plant. The cleanup will end at noon with lunch and live music. This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power employees.

 

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river

cleanups, have collected more than 10 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since the program’s inception in 2000. Twenty-five cleanups are held each year from February through October on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior, Mobile and Alabama rivers.

 

Directions:     From Birmingham: Take I-20/I-59 toward Tuscaloosa. Take Exit 120.  Travel on Highway 269 toward Jasper for 28 miles. Gorgas Steam Plant will be on your left at 460 Gorgas Road.
