At first glance, Randy Wise Homes’ custom home in Niceville, Fla., looks much like any other well-designed and well-built home — but that’s where the similarities end.

 

When you look a little closer, you’ll see a super energy-efficient design certified by Gulf Power as an EarthCents Home. That design won Randy Wise Homes an Aurora Award and a Grand Aurora Award for Best Energy Efficient Home.

 

Builders and designers throughout the Southeast attended the Aurora Awards celebration during a regional building industry conference last month in Orlando, Fla. The award coincides with the Southeast Building Conference (SEBC) and honors the best in residential and commercial construction and design.

 

“I’m very honored that our company was chosen for these awards,” said Randy Wise. “But I’ve got to tell you, I couldn’t have done it without my team and Gulf Power. Their expertise was invaluable to the project. This is the type of home customers are looking for — they want to save money and energy, too. They want to do their part for the environment.”

EarthCents Homes are designed to rival EnergyStar standards and exceed the Florida Model Energy Code. Customers also are eligible for rebates from Gulf Power if they choose to install certain super-efficient equipment. For example, customers can receive a $400 per ton rebate for installing a geothermal heat pump. In addition to the Gulf Power incentives, homeowners can take advantage of state rebates and federal tax credits.
