Volunteers clean Lake Mitchell Oct. 23 as part of Renew Our Rivers campaign

What:              The 14th Lake Mitchell fall cleanup is Saturday, Oct. 23 from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers with or without boats will meet at Higgins Ferry Park in Chilton County. The cleanup will end with a hotdog lunch.

 

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Lake Mitchell Homeowners and Boat Owners Association. Last year, about 85 volunteers collected close to a ton of trash.

 

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river

cleanups, have collected more than 10 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since the program’s inception in 2000. Cleanups are held each year from February through October on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior, Mobile and Alabama rivers.

 

Directions:     From Birmingham, take Interstate 65 to exit 208. Take County Road 28 (Lake Mitchell Road) until it ends at Higgins Ferry Park.
