Southern Company top ranking electric utility among most military-friendly employers

ATLANTA - Southern Company ranks highest among electric utilities on G.I. Jobs Magazine’s ninth annual list of the nation’s Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers®.  Listed at 21, this marks the fifth consecutive year Southern Company has been recognized.

The honored companies were selected based on their assets dedicated to military hiring, the strength of their military recruiting efforts and their policies addressing National Guard and reserve service, among other criteria. Approximately 5,000 corporations with annual revenues of at least $500 million were surveyed for this year's list.

“We are honored to be a part of the G.I. Jobs annual Top 100 list for the fifth year in a row,” said Chris Collier, talent acquisition director for Southern Company. “Our continued ranking is a clear indication of our commitment to providing outstanding support to our servicemen and women and their families.  We value the training, operational skills and leadership ability that military service members have developed while protecting our country.”

G.I. Jobs helps provide training and career opportunities for veterans and those in transition from military to civilian employment. The 2011 list of military-friendly employers is featured in the December issue of the magazine.
