Alabama Power board of directors elects Smith as vice president

 

The Alabama Power board of directors has elected Donna D. Smith as vice president with responsibility for Human Resources and Ethics. In that role, she will be responsible for Alabama Power Labor Relations functions, Ethics, Wellness, Safety, Health and Disability Management, as well as for delivery of Human Resources products and services to Alabama Power Company employees throughout the state. 

 

Now in her 25th year with Alabama Power and Southern Company, Smith most recently served as director of Human Resources for Alabama Power. Prior to that, she worked in staff and management positions in Marketing, Leadership Development and Corporate Services.

Smith attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va., and earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from the University of Alabama. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Samford University. Integrally involved in the community, Smith was the first board president of the Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama Council, and is on the board of directors for Harbert Center Management Inc. and Pathways. She is president-elect of The Women’s Fund Advisory Board and an incoming member of the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham Board of Directors. She also serves on the Members Council for Leadership Birmingham, the Membership Nominating Committee for the Summit Club and the advisory board for UAB’s Women’s Athletics. 

 

In addition, she serves on the board of directors for the Momentum Leadership Program and received a Leadership Award from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Smith was named one of “Birmingham’s Top Women” by the Birmingham Business Journal and was elected to the International Who’s Who in Business. She is a graduate of Leadership Birmingham and Leadership America, sponsored by the Dallas Women’s Museum. She received the Mary Baldwin College Alumnae Community Service Award in April 2010.

 

Smith and her husband, Julian, have one son and three grandchildren.
