Volunteers clean Alabama River Feb. 26 as part of Renew Our Rivers campaign

What: The 4th Alabama River cleanup is Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011. Volunteers will meet at 27 River Road,Camden,  36726, at 8 a.m. to remove trash from land and shore areas. The cleanup will end at noon.
 
This Renew our Rivers cleanup is sponsored by Wilcox Natural. In 2010, 75 volunteers removed 5.85 tons of trash from the Alabama River during the cleanup.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanups, have collected more than 11 million pounds of trash and debris from Southeast rivers since its inception in 2000. More than 25 cleanups are held each year from February through October on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: From red light on Camden Bypass at CVS, take road in front of Post Office. Go 1 mile to fork. Go left at fork, stay straight for 2 miles. Road dead ends at river house, 27 Riverfront Road.
