Volunteers roll up their sleeves for cleanup on Lake Eufaula, part of Renew Our Rivers campaign

What:  The 6th annual Weiss Lake Renew Our Rivers cleanup will be Saturday, March 5 at 7:30 a.m.  Volunteers will meet at the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Eufaula.  The cleanup will conclude at 11:30 a.m. with lunch.  

These Renew Our Rivers cleanups are being coordinated by the Friends of Lake Eufaula. In 2010, more than 120 volunteers removed nearly 3 tons of trash and debris from Lake Eufaula.

Overview:  Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river
cleanups, have collected more than ten million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since its inception in 2000. Twenty-five cleanups are planned through October. Cleanups are held each year on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior, Mobile and Alabama rivers.

Directions: U.S. Coast Guard Station: The U.S. Coast Guard Station is almost directly across from the intersection of Highway 431 and Highway 82. Traveling north on Highway 431, take a right onto Chewalla Drive.  Traveling south on Highway 431, take a left onto Chewalla Drive.  The U.S. Coast Guard Station will be on your right.
