Spillway gates operating at Coosa/Tallapoosa River dams; Weiss and Logan Martin expected to rise above summer pool level; Smith above summer pool level

Because of recent rains, Alabama Power has opened spillway gates at its Henry, Logan Martin, Lay, Mitchell and Jordan dams on the Coosa River to help manage flows and rising lake levels.  Spill operations are also taking place at Yates and Thurlow dams on the Tallapoosa River.

Weiss and Logan Martin lakes on the Coosa River will continue to rise throughout the day and into tomorrow and are expected to rise above summer pool elevations.  Harris and Martin lakes on the Tallapoosa River are expected rise throughout the day.  On the Warrior River system, Smith Lake is above its normal summer pool level of 510 feet and is expected to continue to rise over the next few days.  Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Alabama Power will continue to closely monitor conditions on the lakes and manage resources carefully. Individuals with boats and other water-related equipment and facilities should always be alert to changing conditions on Alabama Power reservoirs and be prepared to take the necessary steps to protect their property.
