ATLANTA – For the third time in six days, Southern Company set a new system peak demand record for electricity use. On Monday, Aug. 7, preliminary peak demand for electricity averaged approximately 37,990 megawatts between 4 and 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

Monday’s record is 104 megawatts higher than the previous peak record of 37,886 megawatts set just three days before, on Friday, Aug. 4. Prior to Friday’s peak, the all-time system record was 37,760 megawatts set two days before, on Wednesday, Aug. 2.

With high temperatures continuing across the Southeast, the potential exists for additional demand records to be set this summer.
