Volunteers to clean Smith Lake April 30

What:  The Smith Lake cleanup is Saturday, April 30 and will focus on household trash and debris collected from sloughs. Unencapsulated beaded foam will not be accepted. 
 
This cleanup is sponsored by Winston County Smith Lake Advocacy Inc. and is their 10th cleanup since 2006. In 2010, volunteers removed 15 tons of litter from Smith Lake.

Volunteers will meet at the Duncan Bridge at 9 a.m. or at Rock Creek Marina at 8 a.m. The cleanup will end at 4 p.m. Trash bags will be provided.

Overview:  Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest
river cleanups, have collected more than 11 million pounds of trash and debris since its inception in 2000. More than 30 cleanups are held each year from February through October on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: Duncan Bridge 6 miles south of Arley Rock Creek Marina, 288 County Road 4010, Crane Hill.
