Plant Vogtle Unit 2 Returns to Service Following Planned Refueling and Maintenance Outage

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Oct. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Unit 2 of the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant near Waynesboro, Ga., resumed generating electricity on Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m. EDT after a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage was completed safely and successfully. The refueling outage began Sept. 18, 2011.

During this outage, routine maintenance and refueling activities took place as well as several equipment reliability improvements and system upgrade projects including; work on the low-pressure turbine and the replacement of a circulation water pump.

Also during the 24-day outage, Plant Vogtle Unit 1 continued to supply electricity safely.
