Lake Mitchell volunteers prepare Renew Our Rivers cleanup March 24

 

 

What:              The 13th annual Lake Mitchell Renew Our Rivers cleanup begins Saturday, March 24 at 8 a.m. Volunteers will meet at Higgins Ferry Park, where the cleanup will end at noon with a picnic lunch.

                       

                        This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Lake Mitchell Home Owners and Boat Owners. In 2011, more than 120 volunteers removed more than 3 tons of debris from the lake. More than 44 tons have been removed from Lake Mitchell during spring and fall volunteer efforts since 2000.

 

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river

cleanups, have collected more than 12 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 29 cleanups are planned through October on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

 

Directions:     This site is north of Clanton at Lake Mitchell exit 208 off Interstate 65. Go east on County Road 28 until it dead ends at Higgins Ferry Park.
