Logan Martin volunteers coordinate Renew Our Rivers effort March 26-31

 

What:              The 13th annual Logan Martin Renew Our Rivers cleanup runs March 26-31. A community cleanup will be held on Saturday, March 31, starting at 8 a.m. and ending at noon with a picnic at Lakeside Landing.

 

                        This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Logan Martin Lake Protection Association. In 2011, more than 500 volunteers removed in excess of 6 tons of debris from the lake. Nearly 140 tons have been removed from Logan Martin by volunteer efforts since 2000.

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest

river cleanups, have collected more than 12 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 29 cleanups are planned through October on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions:     Lakeside Landing is located off U.S. Highway 231 south of Pell City. The weeklong cleanup will be held at various locations. Volunteers should contact the cleanup coordinator for details about supplies and target locations each day.
