Alabama Power employees plan Mulberry Fork Renew Our Rivers on May 18

What: Alabama Power employees will coordinate a Renew Our Rivers cleanup along the banks of the Mulberry Fork near Plant Gorgas on May 18. Employee volunteers will meet at the plant boat launch at 7 a.m., and the cleanup will end at noon with lunch.

In 2011, 51 volunteers removed nearly 2 tons of debris from the Mulberry Fork. More than 9,000 pounds have been removed from the waterway during volunteer cleanups since 2005.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers have collected more than 12 million pounds of  trash since  the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 29 cleanups are planned through October on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.
