Volunteers to host Renew Our Rivers cleanup on Bankhead Lake May 29 through June 2

What: The ninth annual Bankhead Lake Renew Our Rivers cleanup will take place May 29 through June 2. The cleanup will culminate with a community volunteer event on Saturday, June 2. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Quinn’s Landing in Adger and will end at 11:30 a.m. with a volunteer appreciation lunch.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Black Warrior River Clean Water Partnership. In 2011, 132 volunteers removed 14,620 pounds of debris. More than 120,000 pounds have been removed from Bankhead Lake during volunteer cleanups since 2003.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers have collected more than 12 million pounds of trash since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 29 cleanups are planned through October on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

 

Directions:     From Birmingham, take I-20/59 toward Tuscaloosa. Take Exit 115 right onto Valley Road/Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive/Warrior River Road/County Road 46 for approximately 16 miles. Turn left onto Camp Oliver Road/County Road 21 and continue 8 miles onto Franklin Ferry Road/County Road 6. Turn left onto Quinn’s Landing Road.
