Lake Demopolis Renew Our Rivers cleanup is Oct. 5-6

 

What:             The 7th annual Lake Demopolis Renew Our Rivers cleanup is Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6. Volunteers will be assisting in shoreline cleanups all day Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Additional partners include Cemex and the city of Demopolis. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own boats. Since 2005, more than 307,000 pounds of trash and debris has been removed from the water during cleanups.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup will be held in conjunction with the Demopolis “Renew Our City” cleanup. The Demopolis Rotary Club is encouraging people to clean around their homes and businesses.

Overview:     Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest

river cleanups, have collected more than 12 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 29 cleanups are planned through October on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions:   The clean-up will be held at the Demopolis City Landing located on Highway 43.  Look for the landing right across from the Demopolis Yacht Basin.
