Boscia, Hood named to Southern Company Board of Directors

ATLANTA - Dec. 7, 2007 - Southern Company's board of directors has elected two new members, Jon A. Boscia and Warren A. Hood Jr. Boscia 55, is the recently retired chairman and CEO of Lincoln Financial Group. Hood, 55, is chairman and CEO of Hood Companies. He served on the Mississippi Power board of directors from 2004 through Dec. 6, 2007.

Boscia joined Lincoln Financial Group in 1983 as vice president of investment management and strategic planning for Lincoln National Pension. He worked in a number of positions before being selected as president and CEO of parent company Lincoln Financial Group in 1998 and chairman in 2001.

Hood Companies, founded in 1978, is made up of three corporations that manufacture and distribute packaging and construction products including lumber, plywood and roofing materials throughout the United States and Canada.

The terms of Boscia and Hood on the 12-member Southern Company board begin Dec. 7, 2007.

Hood serves on numerous corporate, community and philanthropic boards, including BancorpSouth Bank, Boy Scouts of America, and The Governor's Commission on Rebuilding, Recovery and Renewal, which was formed following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. A native of Jackson, Miss., Hood holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and a master's in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Boscia is a past member of the board of The Hershey Company where he chaired the Corporate Governance Committee and served on the Executive Committee. He has served in leadership positions on many other public company boards as well as not-for-profit and industry boards. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and an honorary doctorate from Point Park University. He earned an MBA from Duquesne University.
