New Alabama Power service provides lake information free via e-mail
Upgrades coming to 1-800-LAKES11; menu options changing

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Dec. 10, 2007 - People interested in Alabama Power lakes can now receive lake condition and hydro generation information free via e-mail. The company is also updating its 1-800-LAKES11 phone line to better serve people who need details about Alabama Power lakes and lake operations.

Those seeking lake information can now find it through a new Web address: http://lakes.alabamapower.com. There, visitors can sign up to receive information about lake levels, generation schedules, or both via e-mail. Visitors can choose to receive e-mail information for just one lake, or for every reservoir in the system. They can also choose to have that information e-mailed to them once a day, twice daily, once a week or once a month. Visitors can even designate the time of day they want the information sent to them.

“We’re adding the free e-mail service so that people have another option for getting timely and accurate information about our lakes and lake operations,” said Willard Bowers, vice president of environmental affairs for Alabama Power. “With drought conditions continuing to affect our lakes, getting information to people is more important than ever.”

Alabama Power’s 1-800-LAKES11 automated Reservoir Information System is also being upgraded. Current users should be aware that, beginning Dec. 14, the menu options will change. Instructions on the phone line will guide users through the updated system.

With extremely dry conditions persisting, people should remain alert to changing conditions on Alabama Power reservoirs and be prepared to take the necessary steps to protect their property.
