Boat ramp temporarily closed at Yates Dam

Alabama Power is resurfacing the boat ramp and parking area at Yates Public Boat Ramp and will close access to the site near Tallassee from July 15 through July 20.

The closure is part of Alabama Power’s ongoing maintenance of the company’s recreational facilities. Anglers and boaters are encouraged to use other public access sites during maintenance at the Yates site:

  • Gold Mine Road – approaching Martin Dam on Rev. James Arter Smith Highway/AL-50 West. Take the first left after crossing the Tallapoosa River.
  • Coon Creek Landing – from Tallassee Bridge, take AL-14 east 6 miles to County Road 6/Macedonia Road on the right. In 3 miles, take a left onto Hicks Store Road. In 1 mile, keep right onto Gravel Pit Drive and then take the first left onto Coon Creek Landing Road.

Alabama Power and its state and local partners operate more than 45 public access sites on 11 reservoirs on the Coosa, Tallapoosa and Warrior rivers. The company also maintains thousands of acres of natural and undeveloped land along the lakes for use by hikers, bird watchers and primitive use campers.
