Southern Telecom® expands Georgia customer base

ATLANTA – Nov. 13, 2006 – Southern Telecom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Atlanta-based Southern Company (NYSE: SO), today announced that it has expanded its Georgia, customer base with the addition of Georgia Public Web, a member-owned non-profit corporation that delivers high-end technology services.

Georgia Public Web operates a self-healing Synchronous Optical Network with over 2,500 route miles of fiber optic cable and provides last-mile connectivity utilizing wireline, wireless and fiber optic cable. Southern Telecom provides wholesale dark fiber optic cable and co-location solutions to large enterprise and telecom carrier customers, such as Georgia Public Web. The company’s extensive dark fiber network connects multiple cities throughout the Southeast.
