What:  The ninth annual Weiss Lake Renew Our Rivers cleanup is Saturday, March 15. Volunteers will meet at the Causeway Landing between Centre and Cedar Bluff on Highway 9 at 8 a.m. to remove trash, tires and discarded items from the lake. The cleanup will end at noon.

Renew Our Rivers is being coordinated by the Weiss Lake Improvement Association. In 2007, 1,600 volunteers and 847 teachers and students collected 34,580 pounds of trash from Weiss Lake. 

Overview:  Renew Our Rivers, the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaign,
has collected nearly 8.6 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since its 2000 inception. There are 27 cleanups planned through Oct. 25.

Cleanups are held on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior and Mobile rivers in Alabama.

Directions: Directions to the Causeway Landing
From Birmingham – follow Interstate 59 north to Gadsden.  Take U.S. Highway 411 to Centre.  Turn left on U.S. Highway 411/68 on the Chesnut Bypass for approximately 2 miles until the intersection of Highway 68 and Highway 9.  Turn left and go approximately 3.5 miles and the Causeway Landing and Boat Ramp will be on the left.
