Volunteers roll their sleeves up for cleanup on Smith Lake, part of Renew Our Rivers campaign, March 27-28

What:  Renew Our Rivers makes a stop in Cullman Thursday, March 27 and Friday, March 28 for the Smith Lake cleanup.  Volunteers will meet at the Ryan Creek Boating Center at 21680 County Road 222 at 8 a.m.

Renew Our Rivers is being coordinated by the Smith Lake Environmental Preservation Committee.  As an added benefit, all lake residents who participate in the clean up can take their Styrofoam to the Cullman County Landfill on Thursday, March 27, Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29 until noon at no fee.

Overview: Renew Our Rivers, the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaign,
has collected nearly 8.6 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since its 2000 inception. There are 27 cleanups planned through Oct. 25.

Cleanups are held on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior and Mobile rivers in Alabama.

Directions: Directions to Ryan Creek Boating Center
From Birmingham- follow Interstate 65 north to exit 299.  Turn left on Highway 69 toward Jasper.  Follow Highway 69 for 7.3 miles.  Turn right on to County Road 222 for 6.7 miles.  Ryan Creek Boating Center is located just before the bridge over Smith Lake.
