Alabama Power Initiates Flood Control Measures at Martin Dam
PRNewswire
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.

In response to recent heavy rainfall, Alabama Power Company has taken flood control measures at Martin Dam. Heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours on the Tallapoosa River system has caused a substantial increase to water flowing into Lake Martin. Lake Martin is currently at elevation 489.4 feet mean sea level; normal full pool is 490 feet mean sea level. Alabama Power raised two spillway gates at Martin Dam at 12:30 A.M. CST; additional rainfall during the night required another spillway gate to be raised at 8:00 A.M. CST. Without any more significant rainfall, these gates will probably be lowered by Friday.

Residents along the Tallapoosa River from Tallassee to Montgomery should be alert to rapidly changing conditions and take action to protect themselves, their property and their livestock due to high water levels.

For additional information about lake levels and flood control operations, call Alabama Power's automated reservoir information system at 1-800-LAKES-11.
