Alabama Power to Lower Lay Lake beginning July 25
PRNewswire
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.

In order to perform measurements, Alabama Power has rescheduled the lowering of Lay Lake to begin on Friday, July 25. The lowering was delayed due to continued heavy rainfall.

The lake will be lowered 3 feet, from 396 feet above mean sea level to 393 feet above mean sea level. Alabama Power will begin refilling Lay Lake on Monday, July 28. The lake is scheduled to return to normal summer pool elevation by Friday, Aug. 1. The measurements are required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Heavy rainfall could prompt a change in the scheduled lowering and refilling of the lake. Changes in the schedule will be announced on Alabama Power's automated Reservoir Information System at 1-800-LAKES11 (1-800-525-3711). Callers can navigate the phone line by pressing 4-4-5 to reach Lay Lake - Special Operations.

Alabama Power owns and operates 14 hydroelectric plants in Alabama, providing clean, low-cost electricity. The facilities also provide more than 157,000 acres of water and 4,000 miles of shoreline for the public's use and enjoyment.
